CUF expresses protest to the Ukrainian government against the conviction of Yulia Tymoshenko

The Canada Ukraine Foundation expresses its unequivocal disappointment and strongest protest to the Ukrainian government against the conviction and sentencing to seven years imprisonment on October 11 of Yulia Tymoshenko, former Prime Minister of Ukraine. We believe that the prosecution and conviction was a gross miscarriage of justice aimed at eliminating a key leader of the political opposition to the current government in power on spurious charges.

posted in onOttawa, Canada - March 11, 2010 -Prime Minister Stephen Harper met yesterday with key representatives of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) and the Canada Ukraine Foundation (CUF) to discuss the recent Presidential Elections Observer Missions and the future of Canada-Ukraine relations.
Kyiv – Volunteer observers began arriving in Ukraine on Monday, less than a week ahead Election Day. The leadership of the Canada Ukraine Foundation’s Election Mission, organized in association with the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, met with observation team leaders in Kyiv on Monday.
