As Canadians gathered with family over the Easter long weekend, Russia continued its relentless attacks on Ukraine as it ramps up once rare daylight attacks, launching hundreds of drones and missiles and killing civilians. For many Ukrainians, the impact of the attacks does not end when the missiles stop. For wounded defenders, it marks the beginning of a long and difficult road as survival is only the beginning. What follows is harder. The work of rebuilding strength, reclaiming independence, and returning to a life that has been irrevocably changed by Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Through the CUF-UCC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, the Canada-Ukraine Foundation supports the Citizen Charity Foundation and its Cyborgs initiative, where that work is already underway. Not as charity, but as commitment.

Rehabilitation here is rigorous. Months, often more than a year, of physical training to walk again without support. Learning to use prosthetics not as replacements, but as tools. Expanding what the body can do. Relearning balance, endurance, and control.
At the same time, there is the mental discipline. Accepting a new reality without surrendering to it. Rebuilding confidence. Re-entering society not as diminished, but as changed and capable.
This strength extends beyond the individual. Families train together, adapt together, and move forward together. Partners support each other through physical recovery and psychological strain. What emerges is not fragility, but resilience.
Through their work, the Citizen Charity Foundation has already supported 142 veterans and 12 family members. Each one is proof that recovery is not about returning to the past, but building forward.
This is what your support makes possible. Not survival. Strength.
Together, we power recovery.
