Sportsmanship in a Time of War

3rd Annual Bay Street Fundraising Breakfast featuring Andriy Shevchenko

As we celebrate Canada this week, we reflect on what it truly means to be Canadian.

Our values extend far beyond our borders to those who continue to fight for these same principles around the world.

On June 6, over 350 business and community leaders gathered in Toronto for our 3rd Annual Bay Street Fundraising Breakfast, raising over $300,000 in support of the CUF-UCC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal and the Ukrainian Football Association Foundation. Thanks to this initiative — led by Bert Clark, Roman Dubczak, and Tim Griffin — more than $1 million has been raised since 2023 to support those facing unimaginable hardship.

Centred on the theme “Sportsmanship in a Time of War,” we were honoured to hear from Jesse Marsch, Head Coach of Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team, and international soccer legend Andriy Shevchenko, President of the Ukrainian Association of Football. Their words reminded us that true strength lies not just in victory, but in how we support each other through the darkest moments.

Being Canadian means standing with those who fight for the same freedoms we cherish. It means answering the call when others need our help. It means showing the world that in the face of injustice, we don’t look away—we step forward.

Help Ukraine and honour Canada. Stand with the millions of Canadians who refuse to let freedom fade, who stand up to tyrants and injustice.

Donate and show the world that when it matters most, Canadians deliver.
